About The Local Tab

A Better Night Out Starts With Better Information.

The Local Tab is being built around a simple idea: choosing where to go should be easier when you know what to expect. From neighborhood pubs and local breweries to restaurants and live music spots, we’re working to make Northern Virginia’s local scene easier to explore, understand and enjoy.

Section 01 · Why we exist

Because Nobody Likes Surprises on the Tab.

Looking for somewhere to go usually means scrolling ratings, photos and glossy impressions. What’s harder to find is the practical stuff: what a drink actually costs, how big the pour is, whether the happy hour has strings attached, and what the place is really like on a Friday.

The Local Tab aims to bring that practical information together with independent community perspectives — so you can walk in knowing what you’re getting into, not finding out at the end.

Local knowledge, collected in the open, on the things that actually shape your night.

What’s usually missing

  • What a drink actually costs
  • The serving size or pour
  • Happy-hour days, times and exclusions
  • What the atmosphere is really like

What we want to add

  • Dated, source-labelled observations
  • Comparisons that respect serving sizes
  • Independent community ratings

Section 02 · What we’re building

Three ideas, one platform

These are the pieces we’re building — they’re in development, not live yet.

Discover Smarter

Find My Spot helps visitors identify establishments that fit their preferences, occasion and budget.

Compare Clearly

Build My Tab is designed to compare observed food and drink prices with serving sizes and relevant restrictions.

Rate What Matters

The Local Tab Score combines six independent rating dimensions, weighted appropriately for different establishment types.

Section 03 · Principles

Built on Trust, Not Guesswork.

A guide is only worth using if you know where its information comes from. These are the commitments that shape how The Local Tab works.

  • Accuracy

Prices should have supporting sources, observation dates and serving sizes where applicable.

  • Transparency

Missing or outdated information is clearly identified — never quietly filled in.

  • Independence

Advertisers cannot purchase better ratings or higher positions in organic recommendations.

  • Community

Genuine contributors are what make the information useful, current and worth trusting.

  • Fairness

Standard factual venue listings are free, and business owners can request corrections.

  • Contributions are reviewed before publication, and we don’t describe a community report as independently verified unless the evidence supports it.

Section 04 · Where we’re starting

Local First. Built to Grow.

Northern Virginia is our first market — communities across Fairfax and Loudoun counties, along with Manassas and Alexandria. It’s where the local scene is dense, the choices are real, and a little better information goes a long way.

Research and venue coverage are being developed progressively. We’d rather be genuinely useful in a few places than thin everywhere.

These are focus areas, not a claim that every venue is listed or that researched prices are already published.

Section 05 · Together

For Everyone Who Makes a Great Night Out

A good local guide takes three kinds of people — and we’re building for all of them.

Visitors

Discovering places and understanding prices before you commit to a night.
