How we're funded

The Local Tab is free for consumers. It's supported by local sponsorships, enhanced venue listings and event promotions from Northern Virginia businesses.

Every paid placement is labelled

Anything paid for carries a clear "Sponsored" or "Promoted" label. That includes sponsored placements, enhanced venue profiles and promoted events.

What advertising never buys

• Improved community ratings or review scores.
• A better Local Tab Score.
• Removal of honest negative reviews.
• A higher position in price comparisons or search relevance.
• Suppression of any observation about their venue.

Ratings and scores are calculated only from approved community reviews. Sponsored venues are treated exactly like any other venue in those calculations.

Editorial independence

Our editorial decisions — what we publish, how we label it, and what we leave out — are made independently of commercial relationships. Advertisers have no input into editorial content.

Third-party communities

We do not sell and never promise exposure through third-party Facebook groups, forums or communities. Those belong to their members and moderators, not us.
